LA RAZA
CÓSMICA
To be Latino is, in many cases, to have descended from both the Old World and the New World. As someone of mixed Latin American descent, I am drawn to where my lineage is represented and the idea of “La Raza Cósmica” that had the best attributes of all the cultures.

Based on a true story, this operatic tale of two lovers reflects our time of global migration and closed borders. Its roots are in graphic novels, shadow boxes and paper theater as a form of visual storytelling in which layered images each inform the meaning of the other.

French philosopher Michel Foucault, in Utopian Bodies, described nighttime as when: “The body is torn away from its proper space and projected into another space.” This space becomes a social elsewhere and another mental state emerges. Psychogeography on the streets of an unknown city.
